Christmas in Bangkok

Thailand

sunny 34 °C

My friend Emma was waiting for me in arrivals at Bangkok airport it was so lovely to see her after such a long time! She has been travelling for 8 months, we plan to spend the rest of our time travelling together. We took the bus back to our hotel we had so much to catch up on that the 1 hour journey from the airport went very quickly. We spent the rest of the evening exchanging stories & experiences with a few drinks along the Khaosarn Road.

The following day we went shopping, Bangkok has the biggest weekend market it is huge about the size of 4 football pitches they had everything you could possibly want here. We shopped until we dropped I just could not resist. After our shopping spree I rested & in the evening met up with Emma & her dad Barrie who had arrived for Christmas.

On Christmas Eve I checked in to a beautiful boutique hotel in China Town, it was lovely to have a hot shower & 5 star treatment far away from all the hustle & bustle of Bangkok streets. Mark's flight had been delayed from the UK so he wasn't arriving until Xmas day so with that Emma, Barrie & I went to see a Thai boxing match. It was really cool, we opted for the cheapest seats which was standing with the locals it was great to be amongst them and cool to watch them get heated when all the action started. After we visited the flower market it was really late at night but this place for heaving with activity.

Waking up on Christmas day was strange my hotel had a Christmassy feel but nothing else around me did, it wasn't until they started playing Christmas carols at breakfast that it really soaked in that it was Christmas day. There was still no sigh of Mark who had been delayed because of the fog so I decide to treat myself to a two hour traditional thai massage, it was amazing and after being kneaded and stretched it left me totally relaxed ...I wish Christmas day always started like this. Mark finally arrived early evening I met him at the airport giving him no chance to rest after a 16 hour delay we headed out for traditional thai food and a few beers to celebrate.
