Bula

all seasons in one day 29 °C

Hello, sorry it has taken me a while to blog internet in Fiji wasn't the best .

So after flying 22 hrs I finally arrived on the Island of Fiji. I was met at the airport by the feejee experience team. After meeting everyone on the bus we set off on a four day trip around the Island of Viti Levu.

Our first stop was the Nadi market to stock up on food for a BBQ lunch, wandering through all the different food markets with the locals was a real eye opener to the different culture. It was great to head away from the tourist hub and take in some of the Island. As we headed away from the main road, travelling through villages and sugarcane fields we came to a beautiful sandy beach called Natadola, I am told it is Fiji's best beach on the mainland. The boys from the local village brought their horses down to the beach offering us rides, the horses looked a little anorexic so instead I took this as my chance to get some sun.

Moving on from the beach our next stop was to a local coastal village called Molo-Molo, we got to visit a tradition Fijian home which is called a Bure built using only local materials, there was not a single nail in sight. As we walked around the village the local kids joined us and taught us Fijian words. We then headed off to Sigatoka sand dunes which is an archaeological site where I tried sand boarding. After our sand boarding efforts we was off to our last stop of the day, the Coral Coast. We stopped over at the Mango Bay resort, which had amazing hill top views of the Island.

Day 2 was to Navua River were we began a 3 hour trek into the rainforest. It rained all day and was a real challenge. On finishing the trek we reached the river, we cruised down in a long boat and the scenery was really breath taking and well worth the trek up. After it was back to civilisation and back on the bus to Suva, which is the heart of Fiji. We was staying overnight, our hostel was pretty cool surrounded by lush tropical rainforest and lakes. After a nice hot shower we headed out into town to celebrate our triumph (the trek) for a few cold beers and some cheesy dancing at O'Reileys.

On Day 3 we visited a local town called Korovou, it's here we visited a local Fijian school. I met Miriama, she became my friend showing me around the classrooms and introducing me to all the other children, I even got to sit in on a music lesson. We then had time to play with the children, after playtime was up it was their time to entertain us with a traditional warrior dance. It was then off to try some Cava at the next village, a Fijian drink which looks like mud and doesn't really have much taste, it just leaves you with a numb tongue.

On the last day of the trip we had some time to ourselves to chill out and finally enjoy the sun. I hired a Kayak and went snorkelling. It was then off to Sabeto mudpools for some beauty treatment, followed by a nice soak in the hot thermal mineral water pool. An excellent way to finish the trip after getting very muddy!

I spent my last days chilling on the beach and hanging out with some friends I met on my trip, Nicole, Anne and Jasmin. We decided to take a day trip to Mala Mala Island. A beautiful Island 35 minutes away from the mainland. You could walk around the Island in 10 minutes. It was very beautiful, we went fishing, snorkelled and played volleyball it was such a relaxing day and great fun!

I'm now in Sydney, will add photos and blog again v.soon.
